General Purposes of communication

The four purposes are:

-Inform (representative role): attempts to explain some event or term to describe relationships between concepts or instruct on some process or knowledge.




-Entertain (expressive function): Attempt to make the encounter and understanding between the speaker and the listener through the social nature of language.






-Persuade (appellate function): the purpose is to convince rationally and emotionally to the person to think a certain way.




-Act (appellate function / policy): the purpose is to drive or take the listener to a degree of motivation to compel him to perform some action.
